For parents

Practical information

Opening hours, fees, and what it means to be part of our parent cooperative.

Opening hours

Monday–Friday, 6:30 am–5:00 pm.

Closed for four weeks during the summer, plus three full days and two half days per term for staff planning days. Exact dates are announced ahead of each term.

Fees

ChildMonthly feeAttendance fee
Child 1500 SEK/month16 SEK/day attended
Child 2333 SEK/month16 SEK/day attended
Child 3167 SEK/month16 SEK/day attended

If a family has four children enrolled at the same time, no monthly fee is charged for the fourth child — only the attendance fee of 16 SEK/day applies.

General preschool ("allmän förskola") applies from the autumn term of the year the child turns three. From then on, only an attendance fee of 16 SEK/day is charged, for 15 hours/week on set days and times. From June–August, the standard fee applies as usual.

Fees are paid monthly in arrears, eleven months a year — July is fee-free during the summer closure.

Siblings keep their hours

If you go on parental leave when a sibling is born, most preschools — including municipal ones — reduce the older child's hours to 15 a week under the rules for general preschool.

At Prästhög Förskola, we don't. Your older child keeps their 40 hours a week, just as before, even while you're at home with the new baby. One less thing to rearrange in the middle of everything else that's already changing.

We also offer childcare for siblings of parents on leave or seeking work, for up to 40 hours a week.

Being a member of the cooperative

Prästhög Förskola is run by Högeruds Ekonomiska Förening, with parents as members and employers. It might sound like a lot — but the basic requirement is small and flexible: altogether, it amounts to roughly an hour or so per term.

Each family contributes what they can and want to, beyond the basic requirement. Some choose to get more involved — on the board, in a working group, on a work day — others stick to the minimum, and both are completely fine. Over the years we've had many engaged parents, which is a big part of what makes the preschool good for the children.

In practice, membership can mean one on-call week per term (e.g. mowing the lawn or shovelling snow), one cleaning shift per term (which can also be bought out), and one work day per term. Full bylaws and rules are available to members.

A common misconception about parent cooperatives is that parents are expected to step in and work in the child group or the kitchen. That's not the case here — if a need arises, we cover it with qualified substitute staff. Our staff handle all the childcare, teaching, and cooking. Your involvement as a member is entirely about practical tasks related to the property and the association.
